The concept of Biscotti rised from a personal research into a system of styles that we commonly consider “vintage”.

One above all, the Victorian typography that has been rediscovered and widely re-studied during the 70s. Today, thanks to the technology innovation in digital typography fields, Biscotti is certainly an interesting subject which expresses an appassionate and nostalgic homage to a vintage font, seen from the perspective of a technical inspiration.

Biscotti is composed of two styles: the “default” and the alternative one. The first is of course more conservative and formal, while the alternative formally chooses a change of the diagonal lines into curves, so it creates a much more friendlier reading.

Biscotti consists of 4 styles that can be combined by layers in order to form different ways of reading.

This renewed effect increases exponentially the potential use range of this typography.

Biscotti has 517 characters; and are composed for 220 latin languages.

Drawn by Jörg Hemker, the inspiration for FF Nort came from Transport, the typeface designed for Britain’s highway signage. Hemker took the basic structure of Transport and rebuilt it into a design that’s perfect for a wide range of contemporary hardcopy and digital imaging projects.

Karlo is a super family of several branches, originating in the same lightweight skeleton. The lightweights are based on a pen of an even stroke-width.

Inspired by the writings of calligrapher Edward Johnston, the family moves on in two directions in the heavier weights. Johnston demonstrated that the broad nib pen can produce different writing styles. Following this, one heavy weight has a humanistic low stroke contrast (KarloSerifBold and KarloSansBold), and another has a high stroke contrast of vertical axis with references to the 19th century jobbing typefaces (KarloOpen). The latter is inspired by Johnston’s demonstration of the broad nib pen, where he suggested fastening two pencils together. With each pencil representing an edge of the pen, it becomes more evident how the pen works in writing.

The friendly informal look makes KarloSans and KarloSerif usable for both running text and for display sizes. KarloOpen, on the other hand, is solely designed for display purpose showing few words at a time.

In Denmark, a guy named Karlo would typically be an old fellow with a slick hairstyle that makes an effort with his appearance. He is a handyman who can do a bit of this and that when needed. He is a happy go lucky kind of guy that takes one day at a time. To me, the typeface family has some of the same qualities.

It’s curveless! Inspired by Lego™ bricks, space, sports, and more, Juju is an optionally stackable typeface fit for almost any occasion. Production began in November of 2015 and the first version was released in March of 2016.

Juju is an optionally stackable typeface containing five styles. It was created for a wide variety of usages. There isn’t a single curve in any of the 250+ glyphs. It works for your sports team, your space rocket, your CNC router, anything. Stack all five layers for a truly deep look, or combine two or three (heck, four even) for simplified clarity. Numerals are fixed width (they all take up the same amount of horizontal space).

Style 01-Superbase This is the only style that might look a little wacky on its own, but it is an important member of the family, giving extra weight for added impact. Suggested use with: 03-Center and/or 05-Inline

Style 02-Base This is the backbone of Juju. The workhorse. It goes well with any style included, and on its own is a very nice, straightforward semi-bold style. It is also the style that defines the caps height, ascender, x-height, baseline, and descender (all other styles extend beyond or within those boundaries).

Style 03-Center The thinnest of the bunch, in the middle of Juju, is Center. It’s power cannot be underestimated, since (when activated) it can the bright or dark center of each letter. It plays well with all styles.

Style 04-Outline Outline is the quiet, shy one in the group here. It provides a subtle enclosure to Base, a nice accent to Superbase, or as a wonderful boundary to Center or Inline. And on its own it works in mysterious ways.

Style 05-Inline Another standalone style that could also have huge impact when combined with Superbase, Base, or Outline, this last layer of Juju brings out the best in everything it touches (or doesn’t touch).

I wanted to create a versatile, handwritten block letter typeface that is based on real handwriting and it has a personality and closest to the original version. I created three weights and made sure all the curves and edges are smooth and clean. The stroke width is designed to be uneven, especially in the regular (original) version to give it a real pen pressure look and feel, while these letters were formed naturally as being written. It contains at least one stylistic alternate for all the lowercase and uppercase letters, some lowercase has 3 and ligatures for fi, te, th, standard ligatures tt, jj, for a more organic look and flow. For the best result, make sure you have enabled the “discretional ligatures” and “contextual alternates” open type features, so it will switch between the stylistic sets as you type. In some cases you can also replace these manually for the best result. There are basic math symbols, arrows, currency, punctuation, and accents for Western and Eastern European languages 675 glyphs in total.

This font family is great for just one word like a logotype or headlines, but also suitable for larger texts that requires typographic hierarchy. I can see this on

* menus for coffee shops,

* brochures at the waiting room of a children’s hospital,

* flyers, magazines,

* movie credits and

* ebooks or

* websites.
